TYPES OF ABUSE

There are several types of abuse: physical, sexual, emotional, psychological, verbal, and economic. However, they are all used for the same purpose; to control the life of another human being.

COSTLY CONSEQUENCES OF ABUSE

The consequences for the abuser can change the entire life of them and their family. It causes embarrassment for the entire family. The abuser usually serves time in jail. Along with jail time are court orders which usually result in anger management, domestic violence classes, probation, and community service.

The expense can be astronomical. Not only are there attorney fees, but there are also fees for court costs, attorneys, probation, and other classes, that are required to be taken by court order.

The time spent in jail by the abuser in many cases causes them to lose their jobs. This can cause an entire lifestyle change. They cannot support their family. In many instances, the abuser’s income was the sole support of the family. Now, the family has to rely on the state to help support them.

VICTIMS OF ABUSE

Family abuse will always have a negative effect on children. Abuse can cause them to be withdrawn, act out in violence, have bad grades in school, experiment with drugs and alcohol, and try and protect the victim, which is usually their mom, says M.M. Stiles (2002).
